Prisoners to make kit for troops

‘Prisoners will make kit for the Armed Forces as part of a Government initiative to teach them the value of a “hard day’s work”.

The 10 year deal to produce equipment will save the Armed Forces money and give inmates valuable employment skills, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said.

Offenders will be tasked with making sandbags, fence posts and other kit for the Army.

It comes as new reforms to rehabilitate offenders will see them given support at the prison gate when they finish their sentence.’
