Benefits boss dubbed Robin Hood stole from council and gave to the poor

‘A modern-day Robin Hood has been jailed for handing out tens of thousands of pounds of public money to his friends.

Fraudster Steven Shaw, 36, used his job as a housing benefit officer to make overpayments totalling £55,611.92 to people he thought were struggling to get by.

The dad-of-three, who worked for Swindon Borough Council, gave the money over a period of three years to friends he knew through his son’s football team and a woman who cut his hair.’
