New York National Newspapers Say Obama Must Meet Putin

Indicative of the complete flanking of the war President Barack Obama by Russian President Putin with China’s backing, both major national newspapers in New York City editorialized yesterday that Obama will have to meet with Putin during the UN General Assembly session. It has been clear that Obama does not want this meeting, and that his White House and State Department advisers have been unable to agree on what he should do.

“Putin’s Syria Tour de Force” is the headline of the Wall Street Journal editorial, which is so angry at Putin that it can only call Obama “the weakest U.S. President in memory,” and lament that he has been outflanked and has to meet.

The New York Times lead editorial, “By the Editorial Board,” also argues reluctantly that Obama must meet Putin and discuss a coalition against terrorism. The editorial reads:

“Mr. Obama considers Mr. Putin a thug, his advisers say, and Mr. Putin considers Mr. Obama weak…Mr. Obama has had little to do with Mr. Putin since the Russian leader invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea. Some administration officials worry that agreeing to a meeting, which the Kremlin apparently requested, will play into Mr. Putin’s hands. But it would be a mistake for Mr. Obama not to engage, especially on an issue this serious and when tensions are rising….

“U.S. policy in Syria is failing….”
