Scientific fraud uncovered in antidepressant study that claims psych drugs are safe for children
‘A landmark study which concluded that antidepressant drug Paxil (paroxetine) was safe for use among teenagers was fraudulent, suggests a reanalysis of the previously recorded data.
The original study, published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) in 2001, claimed that Paxil might help young people overcome depression symptoms. New research shows, however, that it used less reliable secondary data to make false claims about the drug’s efficacy. The authors also hid key patient-level data showing that some young people taking Paxil developed serious adverse effects, like suicidal and homicidal tendencies.’
