Campaign for Liberty Continues to Stand with Apple
SPRINGFIELD, Virginia – Today, Campaign for Liberty President Norm Singleton issued the following statement regarding the FBI postponing a hearing trying to force Apple to create a backdoor around its security features allowing the FBI to access the iPhone used by the suspected San Bernardino shooter:
“The government’s request for a postponement of the hearing is a positive development. However, the timing is interesting. For weeks, the FBI ignored the many technological experts who said that there were ways to retrieve the information without forcing Apple to create new technology to allow them to hack into everyone’s phone. Yet, now that public opinion is turning against them, and the weakness of the government’s case against Apple is becoming increasingly clear, the government decides to try another way to get this information.
“Hopefully, this will end the government’s attempts to force technology companies to create new technology allowing the American (and other) governments and private hackers the ability to sneak into our iPhones and view our data. But given the fact that the government was seeking this power long before the San Bernardino shooting, it is more likely they will continue to seek new authority to violate our privacy. Campaign for Liberty stands ready to beat back any new assault on our Fourth Amendment rights whether from the Administration or Congress.”
