Obama in Germany Demands Europe Join War Drive against Russia

Obama landed in Hanover, Germany Sunday, where he met with Chancellor Angela Merkel, toured the Hanover industrial fair with her, and then delivered a speech on the virtues of the TTIP free trade agreement. The TTIP is running into strong and vocal opposition in Germany, including an April 23 demonstration in Hanover of some 90,000 people. Only 17% of Germans back the TTIP, according to a Bertelsmann Foundation poll, and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel was blunt: “It is possible that TTIP will fail.”

But Obama has added an unscheduled item to his agenda, most likely as a result of the marching orders he received in Riyadh and then London, an item which Lyndon LaRouche today described as “very nasty.” Obama has called a summit meeting for April 25 with the heads of state of Germany, the U.K., France and Italy, whose purpose is to rally the restive Europeans around a renewed war drive against Russian President Putin, blowing up Syria, and staying on board the sinking financial Titanic.

The summit agenda, the New York Times wrote Sunday, is

“holding firm against President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and trying to find a solution to the civil war in Syria.” Obama aides “have watched with concern as European unity has come under increased strain at a time of increased Russian aggression … amid a growing sense in his administration that Europe is faltering in the face of multiple challenges, undercutting the trans-Atlantic alliance at a critical time.”

The British imperial outlook was stated clearly to the Times by the director of the Royal Institute for International Affairs/Chatham House, Robin Niblett, who explained why the U.K. should not vote for a Brexit:

“It would potentially destabilize the EU at just the wrong time: when a rearmed Russia has rejected the rules-based order created to sustain peace in Europe after the Cold War, when the Continental EU governments are struggling”

to deal with the economic crisis, migration and other issues.
