Ukraine arrests deputy health minister over bribery

‘Ukraine’s security service has arrested the deputy health minister for allegedly receiving bribery to provide patients with essential treatment and operations.
Vasyl Grutsak, chief of Ukraine’s State Security Service, known as the SBU, said on Friday that Deputy Health Minister Roman Vasylyshyn was directly receiving the money doctors collect “from sick patients for operations” at a state-funded hospital in the capital, Kiev.
“We were shocked by what the deputy health minister was doing,” Grutsak said. “In all, during his detention and as a result of searches, we confiscated more than $50,000 (45,200 euros) and 320,000 hryvnias ($12,900).”‘
