Powerful mosque explosion kills 14 Shias in Afghanistan

‘A bomb blast outside a mosque has claimed the lives of at least 14 Shia Muslims and injured nearly 30 others in Afghanistan’s northern province of Balkh.
Moneer Ahmad Farhad, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said the explosion on Wednesday happened at the gate of the mosque “in the center of Balkh district” in the province.
The blast targeted mourners, who were commemorating Ashura, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the third Shia Imam.’
