MPs rebel against £4billion Commons revamp: Tory ministers urge plans to be scrapped over fears it will trigger a backlash from the public

‘Plans for MPs to move out of Parliament for six years as part of a £4 billion restoration could be scrapped, it emerged last night.
A group of Tory Ministers and senior MPs intend to vote against the proposal for fear it will trigger an ‘extravagant politicians’ backlash similar to the 2009 expenses scandal – and undermine Britain when it is leaving the EU.
They say Parliament should be kept open, with the building works carried out over decades to cut the short-term bill and maintain the UK’s image overseas. The plan for MPs and peers to decamp from the main Grade I listed Palace of Westminster in 2022 and move to temporary accommodation was expected to be rubber-stamped in a New Year vote.’
