Homeowners Bound and Held Hostage
A couple from Henderson County, Texas, are recovering from a harrowing ordeal over the weekend that left them bound and held hostage in their home, before escaping and fatally shooting the two suspects.
According to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, the two suspects came to the couple’s home Sunday afternoon under the guise of purchasing a dog. But it quickly became apparent that the two were not there to buy anything but rather to commit a robbery.
The two suspects, both of whom had handguns, used zip ties to bind the couple and held them in their home for more than three hours. However, at some point, one or both of the victims was able to get free and get to their own guns.

Both suspects were fatally shot. With the use of fingerprint technology, the suspects were identified as Steven Kelley, 49, and Cecil Spain, 31.
Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said the couple suffered minor injuries and, although few details have been released at this point, it does appear the couple acted in self-defense.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers.
