Labour rules out income tax rises for those earning less than £80,000: John McDonnell claims only the top 5% of earners would face personal tax hikes

‘The Labour Party has given its strongest hint yet that it will slap tax rises on the middle classes if it wins the general election.
Socialist shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has said he will only guarantee no tax increases for those earning less than £80,000 a year.
Mr McDonnell suggested those earning more would face personal tax hikes to help pay for extra spending on public services.
But his party’s manifesto will include a promise of no rises in personal national insurance contributions (NICs) or VAT over the course of the five-year parliament, due to end in 2022.’
