Cyber warfare specialists, aviation experts and ‘tech wizards’ will be able to become Army leaders without having to rise up through the ranks.
General Sir Nick Carter, Chief of the General Staff, wants the regular Army to be able to hire straight into its middle and possibly even higher ranks in order to bring in specialist skills for modern warfare.
The proposals – designed to make up for shortfalls in high-tech skills – will overturn generations of tradition which has seen leaders work their way up from the bottom.’
