“WHY DO THEY hate us?” It’s a question that has bewildered Americans again and again in the wake of 9/11, in reference to the Arab and Muslim worlds. These days, however, it’s a question increasingly asked about the reclusive North Koreans. Let’s be clear: There is no doubt that the citizens of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea both fear and loathe the United States. Paranoia, resentment, and a crude anti-Americanism have been nurtured inside the Hermit Kingdom for decades. Children are taught to hate Americans in school while adults mark a “Struggle Against U.S. Imperialism Month” every year (it’s in … Continue reading

The only thing preppers fear more than masses of unprepared people during an emergency, is being one of those people. That’s why our ultimate nightmare scenario would be not having any non-perishable food on hand during a serious disaster. However, there’s plenty of reasons why an otherwise prepared person might not be prepared when the SHTF. You could be out-of-town or out of the country, visiting family members who aren’t preppers. Or perhaps you’re having financial problems. So maybe you’ve had to dip into your food supply, or if you prefer buying canned food over freeze-dried food, you haven’t been … Continue reading

The act of learning is every bit as important as what you learn. Believing that you can improve yourself and do things in the future that are beyond your current possibilities is exciting and fulfilling. Current Prices on popular forms of Silver Bullion Still, your time is finite, and you should dedicate yourself to learning skills that will yield the greatest benefit. There are seven skills that I believe fit the bill because they never stop paying dividends. These are the skills that deliver the biggest payoff, both in terms of what they teach you and their tendency to keep … Continue reading

The month of April is a nightmare for anyone with a conscience, as we only have until “tax day” — which usually falls on April 15 — to give the taxman what he says he deserves. So if you pay taxes to Uncle Sam and you’re also aware you’re paying for mass murder in the Middle East and in U.S. streets due to the drug war, you should also feel sick to your stomach as you write that check. To a restaurant customer, this may have served as enough incentive to remind his server that taxation is always immoral — … Continue reading

Police are investigating an overnight home invasion in the Cliffmarshall area in northwest Houston, TX. Authorities say the homeowner had just returned to the residence from work around 9:15 PM Tuesday night when he was ambushed and pistol-whipped by three suspects, who then used the man to gain entry into the house where his wife and two young children (5 and 6 years old) were inside. The homeowner was pistol whipped and his family was forced to lie down on the floor. The men were looking to rob the victim, but police said at some point the homeowner was able … Continue reading

I rely on Amazon Reader Reviews to inform me about books I am contemplating. But this time, I opened the Reviews just to revel in others’ comments about a book I felt, and feel today, is among the very best histories I have ever read, Thomas Fleming’s A Disease in the Public Mind. But I was amazed at the high percentage of one-star and two-star reviews, and so I opened those. And what I found was stunning. What I found in those one-star and two-star reviews were clouds of mad, slurring, scoffing, sarcastic impugning of Fleming and his motives and … Continue reading

In a memo dated November 30, 1957, an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified as “A. Jones” raised an issue of critical importance: “Several complaints to the Bureau have been made concerning the ‘Mad’ comic book [sic], which at one time presented the horror of war to readers.” Attached to the document were pages taken from a recent issue of Mad that featured a tongue-in-cheek game about draft dodging. Players who earned such status were advised to write to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover and request a membership card certifying themselves as a “full-fledged draft dodger.” At least … Continue reading

Lyme disease makes every trip to the outdoors a little less fun. The threat of this tick-borne pathogen forces us to take extra precautions every time we venture out into nature. Fortunately, Lyme disease mainly proliferates in a few specific regions of the country, such as the Northeast and the Great Lakes region. The majority of Americans only have to worry about the ticks themselves, and not the diseases they carry. There are still plenty of wilderness areas that lie just outside of Lyme disease hotspots. However, many of the places that everyone assumes are safe from this disease, may … Continue reading

Dear Legislator: My name is Tetyana Obukhanych.  I hold a Ph.D. in Immunology.  I am writing this letter in the hope that it will correct several common misperceptions about vaccines in order to help you formulate a fair and balanced understanding that is supported by accepted vaccine theory and new scientific findings. Do unvaccinated children pose a higher threat to the public than the vaccinated? It is often stated that those who choose not to vaccinate their children for reasons of conscience endanger the rest of the public, and this is the rationale behind most of the legislation to end … Continue reading

While we all start our day with brushing our teeth, most of us don’t really pay attention when we’re brushing. We brush distractedly, thinking about other things like to-do lists or weekend plans. Of course, when some oral problem crops up and we have to visit the dentist, oral hygiene comes into focus and for the next week or two, we typically brush carefully until we slip back into mechanical brushing, thinking that everything is good. But that may not always be the case. The problem that started in the mouth may have spread to other important organs in the … Continue reading

Bear with me for a moment, because what I’m about to say will be grim at first, but I assure you that it has a strange and perhaps hilarious payoff. I want you to imagine for moment, what your life might be like after a nuclear war. Put yourself in the place of someone who is clinging to a meager existence after the complete and utter collapse of society. It’s been several weeks since you emerged from your basement or fallout shelter. You are now just scraping by in a desolate community that you once called home. Your body aches … Continue reading

The looming threat of World War III, a potential extermination event for the human species, is made more likely because the world’s public can’t count on supposedly objective experts to ascertain and evaluate facts. Instead, careerism is the order of the day among journalists, intelligence analysts and international monitors – meaning that almost no one who might normally be relied on to tell the truth can be trusted. The dangerous reality is that this careerism, which often is expressed by a smug certainty about whatever the prevailing groupthink is, pervades not just the political world, where lies seem to be … Continue reading

As prepper’s it is easy to focus on being prepared to defend what is ours when situations get dire following a disruptive event.  The reality, however, is that dangerous situations are a part of everyday life. This includes visits to the local ATM, a drive down a busy freeway, or any seemingly mundane situation that involves waiting in a crowded line. It is important to recognize that avoiding deadly situations should be the rule and not the exception.  Watch Your Back: How to Avoid the Most Dangerous Moments in Daily Life, by Roger Eckstine, will prepare you for both everyday … Continue reading

The title for this post is a quote often attributed to Leonid Brezhnev or sometimes to Stalin, but like many pithy quotes, its origins are unknown. It was most likely a quick shorthand for the view of the Soviets, during the Brezhnev era, that their sacrifices in the war entitled them to hold the satellite countries of Eastern Europe. The rhetoric of the Soviets, particularly with regards to the third world, could never be squared with the fact that they held a sizable chunk of Europe captive, but they somehow found a way to justify it. It is also a useful … Continue reading
