One of the most celebrated new guns at SHOT Show 2018 was the Sig Sauer P365, a subcompact 9mm. Sig Sauer shared a copy with Guns.com for review, and after a vigorous workout with six different shooters, we agree there’s a lot to be excited about, and one detail that needs work. Built to conceal The P365 is a striker-fired handgun with a 3.1-inch barrel.  It’s an inch at the widest point, just 4.3 inches high, and 5.8 inches long.  All steel components are stainless; the slide is finished in Nitride. The polymer frame features a pebbled grip surface and rail. It … Continue reading

After a stern warning about a calm before an economic storm, investor Peter Schiff has accused the US Federal Reserve of being oblivious to the upcoming crash. Seeking Alpha quotes Schiff as saying that yields have risen to levels unseen since the last financial crisis a decade ago, with yield curves currently flattening. According to Schiff, that is a troubling sign for the economy in the bond market. “The 30-year [bond] is 3.15. It’s actually just under 20 basis points. 19 basis points is all you get for taking 20 additional years of interest rate and inflation risk. Think about how crazy … Continue reading

I admit, my reaction to the plight of young Alfie Evans is colored by my experience with my own grandson, Joseph, who suffers from a similar disorder. I see Joseph’s innocence in Alfie’s eyes, and I struggle with the marked physical resemblance between Alfie and Joseph at that age.  I also vividly recall the doctors counseling my daughter to abort her pregnancy, to save her child from suffering. “He will likely live 18 months, certainly no more than three years,” they told us solemnly.  Joseph celebrated his 17th birthday in February of this year. Regular readers of my columns will know his story…how the long sought … Continue reading

Coffee is a widely consumed beverage, and several studies have explored its health benefits like supporting liver health. But can coffee help unclog arteries? When your arteries become clogged as a result of cholesterol, it can be dangerous for your heart. Not only does your heart have to work harder to circulate blood, but in some cases, the clog can break off and find its way elsewhere in the body such as the lungs or brain. Clogged arteries can occur for several reasons including eating poorly, being overweight or obese, being older in age, and having another underlying condition like … Continue reading

‘Nothing lasts forever.’ Plain spoken and no-nonsense, this is a saying that governs all aspects of our lives. And when it comes to the markets, this impermanence is the shadow that is always lurking behind the scenes. Vern Gowdie, author of The End of Australia, hammered in this point throughout his speech at Port Phillip Publishing’s Paradox of Prosperity conference. An event where influential financial thinkers from all over the world have come to put in their two cents about the state of the markets. As Vern began his talk, the realist attitude that he’s known for in his writing shone through. … Continue reading

There has still been no retraction or correction of The Guardian‘s demonstrably false and completely indefensible claim that two normal antiwar Twitter accounts were controlled not by real people but by bot programs based in Russia. This is the sort of environment that has been created by the ongoing Russia panic that is plaguing the western world: one wherein mainstream news outlets can openly lie about dissenting voices and antiwar activists, refuse to retract or apologize for those lies, and suffer no consequences. And yet they still have the gall to paint anyone who expresses doubt about the narratives they advance about Russia … Continue reading

Talk about a bombshell heard around the automotive world. During its shareholder meeting this week, Ford announced it will be axing traditional sedans in North America. As in, goodbye future generations of the Fusion, Taurus, C-MAX, and Fiesta. The only cars that will remain past their current generations: the Mustang and the Focus Active crossover, which is due to arrive in 2019. “Given declining consumer demand and product profitability, the company will not invest in next generations of traditional Ford sedans for North America,” Ford said. Cost-Cutting Measures Ford’s move to kill its sedan lineup is part of penny-pinching measures. … Continue reading

A tricky maths problem is sweeping the internet – with many offering lengthy explanations of how to solve the question. However, education charity CEO David Weston has managed to offer a simple explanation of the correct answer. Mathematician Ed Southall, from the University of … Continue reading

The Turkish government has made the decision to repatriate all of its gold reserves that are currently housed in the US Federal Reserve System (FRS). Overall Turkey was storing 220 tonnes, valued at $25.3 billion, in the US, which it repossessed on April 19, 2018. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has toughened his stance against the US dollar (USD), declaring that international loans should be made in gold instead of the American currency. Ankara is seeking to reduce dependence on the US financial system. The gold’s homecoming was partly prompted by the US threats to impose sanctions if Turkey goes through with the … Continue reading

In late September 2016, a few days after Nikolas Cruz turned 18 and became old enough to buy a gun, the Department of Children and Families sent one or more investigators to Cruz’s home. The Department had been alerted by posts on Snapchat where the young man talked crazily about cutting himself and asked for help in getting a gun. Among the many missed opportunities widely discussed in the media, here is one on the local level where the Department of Children and Families actually went to his home to investigate. The department intended to evaluate Cruz for “possible detainment under the Baker Act, … Continue reading

A study performed by an international team led by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), a centre supported by the “la Caixa” Foundation, reports a link between exposure to blue light at night and higher risk of developing breast and prostate cancer. Blue light is a range of the visible light spectrum emitted by most white LEDs and many tablet and phone screens. The results have been published in Environmental Health Perspectives. “WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified night shift work as probably carcinogenic to humans. There is evidence pointing to an association between exposure to … Continue reading

We live in a world of constant contact—a place that’s losing sight of the importance of being alone. Offices are abandoning cubicles in favor of shared desks and wide-open common spaces, and rather than sitting at their desks working independently, school children are placed in groups. It seems that a never-ending “ping” has become our culture’s omnipresent background noise, instantly informing us of every text, tweet, and notification. Even something as mundane as cooking dinner has become worthy of social sharing. One result of all this social connection is that many of us rarely have any time alone. While we’re … Continue reading

The US Government claims that 100% of the 100 plus cruise missiles launched by the coalition it heads reached their targets on Syrian government chemical warfare connected sites. The Syrian and Russian governments state that 75% of these missiles did not reach their targets. Who should we believe? The extreme nature of the US claim should inspire caution. No system functions at 100% efficiency and effectiveness. None. A very senior civilian colleague in DIA once asked me why sophisticated weapons so often malfunction or are otherwise defeated. I told her that it was simply a fact of life that in actual warfare … Continue reading

The world waited with bated breath as a British Appeals Court handed down a decision that determined the fate of 23-month-old Alfie Evans, who has been held as a virtual prisoner by the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, England. Sadly, the court of appeals has rejected the parents’ request to allow Alfie to be transported to an Italian hospital for alternative treatment, virtually sentencing the toddler to death.Justice Andrew McFarlane stuck to his tired diatribe that “the only determining factor is the best interests” of the toddler, claiming, “What rights others have, particularly the parents, falls into a subsidiary … Continue reading
