One of the many unexplained (at least not officially) anomalies of the persons claimed to have carried out the Boston Marathon bombings is the presence of  key CIA figure in the direct family of the accused brothers. Ruslan Tsarnaev, the outspoken uncle of the brothers was married to Samantha A. Fuller until 2004. Samantha’s father is Graham Fuller, the senior CIA person who was the architect the Afghan Islamic fundamentalist Mujahideen war against the Soviets. He is also involved in creating a global jihad network, presumably acting on behalf of CIA interests. Ruslan Tsarnaev, who changed his name to Ruslan … Continue reading

He is always contrarian and sometimes controversial, now commenting on Brexit, Thailand-based Marc Faber believes a U.K. exit could actually be good for everyone. On June 23 the British people will take part in a referendum vote on the question of whether they should be in or out of the European Union (EU). Markets around the world have become jittery as the exit vote has gradually built momentum and now leads in many opinion polls. One poll conducted by ORB on behalf of the British newspaper The Independent recently showed as much as a 10 point swing in favour of … Continue reading

What Galileo and Descartes had begun, Isaac Newton polished: By discovering the mathematical principles that grounded everything from falling apples to orbiting moons, planets, and comets, Newton laid the foundations of modern physics. Oh, and he co-invented calculus too. And a new kind of telescope. And more. Some of his achievements are readily filed under G for genius; others simply reveal his complex and all-too-human personality. Here are 15 things that you might not have known about Sir Isaac. 1. BORN PREMATURELY, ISAAC BARELY SURVIVED HIS FIRST WEEK ON EARTH. Newton’s father, also named Isaac Newton, died a few months before young … Continue reading

Cholesterol does not cause heart disease in the elderly and trying to reduce it with drugs like statins is a waste of time, an international group of experts has claimed. A review of research involving nearly 70,000 people found there was no link between what has traditionally been considered “bad” cholesterol and the premature deaths of over 60-year-olds from cardiovascular disease. Published in the BMJ Open journal, the new study found that 92 percent of people with a high cholesterol level lived longer. The authors have called for a re-evaluation of the guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and … Continue reading

Peter Schiff appeared on CNBC this week with a dire warning on America’s economic future – “It’s gonna be awful!” Do you guys remember the financial crisis of 2008? Did you think that was bad? This is going to be worse.” Peter said this time around, we’re not looking at a financial crisis. We’re staring down the barrel of a currency crisis. Ultimately, the central bankers and government policy makers will sacrifice the dollar on the altar of the stock market. Their main goal is to make sure the stock market doesn’t crash again. Peter said they might succeed, but … Continue reading

June 14, 2016 – It is now confirmed that in addition to two investigations and two interviews, Florida terror suspect Omar Mateen was also approached by “informants” working for the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over a period of 10 months. New York Daily News in their article, “FBI spied on Orlando gay club terrorist Omar Mateen for 10 months in 2013: FBI Director James Comey,” would admit (emphasis added): Mateen first appeared on authorities’ radar in 2013 after the security guard’s colleagues alerted the FBI to inflammatory statements he made to colleagues claiming “family connections to Al Qaeda,” according … Continue reading

No one expected Back to School to be a hit. But the Rodney Dangerfield comedy—which saw the legendary comedian starring as Thornton Melon, a self-made millionaire who attends Grand Lakes University with his son, Jason, and becomes the most popular man on campus—ended up becoming the second highest-grossing comedy of 1986 (only Crocodile Dundee made more). To celebrate its 30th anniversary, here are some facts about the only film that ever dared to pair Dangerfield with Robert Downey Jr., Sam Kinison, and Kurt Vonnegut. 1. HAROLD RAMIS MADE A KEY REWRITE. In the original draft of the script, Thornton still tries … Continue reading

Think of German food and the British mind turns to Bavarian classics: dumplings, sauerkraut, thick slabs of pork in a puddle of beer-based sauce, all browns and beiges and, though often a great pleasure for the taste buds, less than easy on both the eye and the digestive system. Yet though meat and potatoes are unarguably a staple of German cuisine (so fiercely regional that to generalise it as a national one is considered almost offensive), these do not form the basis for the dishes the Germans celebrate the most. They stick firmly to a seasonal culinary calendar, enjoying mountains … Continue reading

A popular Twitter account that highlighted ridiculous academic papers from the social sciences and humanities — some taxpayer-funded — was abruptly deleted recently apparently because critics threatened to expose the name of the anonymous tweeter, who feared career-ending retaliation from campus colleagues. The threats against @Real_PeerReview are telling about the state of soft academia. The tweeter’s primary activity was simply publishing links to abstracts and highlighting one or two sentences from their summaries. If the scholars believed their work had value, they would presumably appreciate wide distribution. The account gained 10,000 followers in only four months by highlighting “research” papers based … Continue reading

For those of us who live busy lives it’s easy to just grab a coffee on our way to work, a bagel in our lunch break and an unhealthy dinner on the way home. But how does lack of variation in your diet affect your health? A poor diet can lead to a range of nutritional deficiencies – which present themselves in various ways. If you’re bothered by tiredness and muscle soreness, for example, you may need to eat more dark green vegetables, oily fish, and whole grains. This is because your body is likely to be low in magnesium. … Continue reading

As more and more evidence emerges regarding the mass shooting in an Orlando gay club that resulted in the death of at least 52 people and many more injured, signs are increasingly pointing toward the possibility of a false flag operation. Already, a number of points lend credence to those who might suggest those intelligence agencies more so than desert-dwelling terrorist organizations are responsible for organizing and directing the attacks. A number of questionable aspects regarding this shooting includes: The FBI knew about the shooter and investigated him prior to the attack. The shooter had a connection to a known ISIS … Continue reading

You’d probably be surprised by how much Latin you actually already know. Hundreds of words—like memo, alibi, agenda, census, veto, alias, via, alumni, affidavit and versus—are all used in everyday English, as are abbreviations like i.e. (id est, “that is”) and etc. (et cetera, “and the rest”). Even some entire Latin phrases have become so naturalized in English that we use them, in full, without a second thought—like bona fide (literally “in good faith”), alter ego(“other self”), persona non grata (“unwelcome person”), vice versa (“position turned”), carpe diem (“seize the day”), cum laude (“with praise”), alma mater (“nourishing mother”), and … Continue reading

Just to prove that there’s nothing new under the sun, a couple of significant electric cars are coming up for sale at auction – but they date from 110 years ago. The Historics sale at Brooklands on June 11 features an American-built 1906 Pope Waverley Victoria Phaeton and a 1907 Victor High Wheel Electric Runabout. Both are now incredibly rare, but electric propulsion was considered a sufficiently viable proposition in the early years of the 20th century to be able to sustain more than 100 manufacturers of battery-powered cars. The 1906 Pope Waverley has tiller steering and a black leather … Continue reading

Would Allen Dulles have resorted to assassinating the President of the United States to ensure the achievement of  his ‘Indonesian strategy’? This is the central question addressed by Greg Poulgrain in his extraordinarily important book, The Incubus of Intervention: Conflicting Indonesian Strategies of John F. Kennedy and Allen Dulles. Two days before President John Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, he had accepted an invitation from Indonesian President Sukarno to visit that country the following spring.  The aim of the visit was to end the conflict (Konfrontasi) between Indonesia and Malaysia and to continue Kennedy’s efforts to support post-colonial Indonesia with economic … Continue reading

By Kit, Off-Guardian.org. Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person to “rule the world” if she can get around the “insane” US Constitution With the democratic nomination now officially all but certain (Sanders, quite obviously, never had a chance), the Guardian has thrown their full editorial weight – such as it is – into a pre-emptive defence of Hillary’s record and a hysterical celebration of the “progress” that the election of this particular bank-backed, corporate-bought, war-hawk would (apparently) demonstrate. First, there was Jonathan Freedland’s anaemic plea that Sanders’ voters get in line and stand with Clinton against the “true enemy”, … Continue reading
