62 years later, the aftermath is still troubling global politics. Operation Ajax was a pivotal moment in US and world history. It was the first time the CIA overthrew a government. Yet even today the US government would rather not talk about it. That’s why it remains an unknown story for many Americans. The year was 1953. The objective was to oust Mohammad Mossadegh, the elected leader of the Majlis, Iran’s parliament. Mossadegh was not a communist or a radical Islamist. He didn’t follow any objectionable ideology. Instead, he was a secular nationalist. But he was inconvenient. Like many Iranians, … Continue reading

Playboy once asked author Ray Bradbury why science fiction was the “purview of young men.” His response is worth recalling now that Ellen Pao has resigned as Reddit’s CEO amid a censoring scandal. There are two races of people—men and women—no matter what women’s libbers would have you pretend. The male is motivated by toys and science because men are born with no purpose in the universe except to procreate. There is lots of time to kill beyond that. They’ve got to find work. Men have no inherent center to themselves beyond procreating. Women, however, are born with a center. … Continue reading

Getting information on purchasing a new vehicle is easy these days.  I know of no other business, except automobiles, where you can find out what a seller pays for his or her wares.  Advantage: car buyer. When it comes to used car values, however, the waters get very murky.  I have callers to the radio show all the time who put stock in what some of the online websites say their car is worth.  There are a couple of things I always remind people of, and that is that these sites makes their money selling ads and customer information to … Continue reading

An attractive smile can make a person appear £10,000 better off, it has been said. Yet many of us fail to give our teeth the attention they deserve – or are unwittingly causing irreparable damage to them, a dentist has warned. Dr Uchenna Okoye, a London dentist and smile director for Oral-B, says people often brush at the wrong time of the day, too quickly, and use outdated tools. Her warning comes as a survey reveals one in three people apparently forget to clean their teeth in the morning. The poll found 35 per cent of these people blame their … Continue reading

As the Ukrainian army squares off against ultra-right and neo-Nazi militias in the west and violence against ethnic Russians continues in the east, the obvious folly of the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy has come into focus even for many who tried to ignore the facts, or what you might call “the mess that Victoria Nuland made.” Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs “Toria” Nuland was the “mastermind” behind the Feb. 22, 2014 “regime change” in Ukraine, plotting the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Viktor Yanukovych while convincing the ever-gullible U.S. mainstream media that the coup wasn’t really a … Continue reading

American investor Jim Rogers has actively encouraged investing into Russia. During his interview with Gazeta.ru Rogers said that he has joined the Board of Directors and bought shares of ‘PhosAgro’ which is a Russian chemical holding company producing fertilizer, phosphates and feed phosphates. He also increased the proportion of shares of the Moscow Stock Exchange and he also has a paper of ‘Aeroflot’. Concerning the current rouble situation Rogers said, “Russia has low debt, unlike Greece, as well as convertible currency, which is quite unique for the new markets. So fundamentally its position can be called normal. It is being pressured by lower oil prices, but as soon … Continue reading

Life would be grand if we only did what our fleeting hearts wanted to do, each moment of the day. Unfortunately, the laundry, taxes and difficult conversations would never get done. The best books would never be written. All the achievements of humankind would be imagined, not realized. So what should we do if we’re facing a task we don’t want to do? Well, we can run, and find distraction. That usually works, until it causes problems. Or we can find a way to get crap done. Here’s how to get crap done. Meditate on why you need to do … Continue reading

The dollar has been a stalwart of international trade over the majority of the last century. Around the time of the formation of the Eurozone, it reached its recent peak at 71.0% of official foreign exchange reserves. Since then, its composition of global reserves has more recently dropped to a more modest 62.9% in 2014. However, the dollar is slowly losing its status as the world’s undisputed reserve currency. This is not an unusual event as far as history goes. In fact, about every century or so since the Renaissance, the global reserve currency has shifted. Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, … Continue reading

Only five years after Marie Curie discovered radium, another famous scientist, J. J. Thomson, wrote a letter to Nature magazine describing his findings on the presence of radioactivity in well water. Soon enough, the same magazine published a study showcasing the radioactivity of different mineral waters. Some of the world’s most famous baths were tested positive for natural radioactivity, the source of which was attributed to traces of radium in the rocks the water was flowing through. Not long after that, the health industry caught on to this discovery. Radium salt used in bath water was suggested as an experimental … Continue reading

Spain has shown that it is fully on board with the Brussels authoritarian direction of ending democracy. Those in power have simply convinced themselves that the people do not understand what is good for them so they must impose their will upon the people but raw force. How does this differ in any what from the justification of imposing communism? This is the death of all freedom and it is upon our doorstep. Here are the new laws in Spain: 1. If you photograph security personnel and then share these images on social media: up to €30.000 fine (particularly if … Continue reading

Recently, we’ve witnessed the bank holiday in Greece, the limitation as to how much the Greek people can withdraw from their accounts each day. Not surprisingly, the mainstream press have focused on images such as the one above – a queue at an ATM – and discussed the difficulty of the Greek people in trying to run their lives on the €50-€60 that they’re allowed to withdraw each day. The press then comment poignantly that “Something needs to be done.” The implication is that “someone”, either the banks or the government, need to find a way to deliver these people … Continue reading

The Earth could be headed for a ‘mini ice age’ researchers have warned. A new study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles – and says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out. This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the ‘Maunder minimum’ – which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London’s River Thames to freeze over. The new model of the Sun’s solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun’s 11-year heartbeat. It draws on … Continue reading

After combing through the data for hours, academics have discovered the cause of the mass shooting in Charleston. Turns out it was comedian Amy Schumer’s fault. You see, she once joked, “I used to date Hispanic guys, but now I prefer consensual,” and that led to a climate of racism that Dylann Roof seized upon when he killed nine people. Previously the experts were sure it was a flag’s fault. They also blamed guns (though few mentioned how these shootings always happen in gun-free zones). I’m a little confused by this latest discovery because I remember George Lopez making a … Continue reading

“When Money Dies” is the title of a 1975 book by Adam Fergusson, in which he describes the downfall of the Reichsmark in Weimar Germany. A fascinating look at that period of history, one can glean quite a few useful pieces of advice on how to survive a currency crisis. But “when money dies” could also describe the current currency crisis in Greece, in which many Greeks seem to have taken those lessons from Fergusson’s account of the Weimar hyperinflation to heart. Even though the Greek currency crisis isn’t a traditional hyperinflationary crisis, many Greeks are trying to get their … Continue reading
