Last Rumble In Fat City (For All Of Us); Never Apologize, Never Explain; Whooping It Up With the War Junkies; More Notes On The Death Of The American Dream; Get Out While You Can  . . . Hunter S. Thompson died 10 years ago this afternoon when a .45 caliber bullet fired from a Smith & Wesson Model 645 he was holding passed through his brain. He wanted it that way. Hunter was a profoundly gifted writer, sportsman, gun lover, and cultural icon.  Mostly he was my mentor.  No one affected my view of life more profoundly than he did.  … Continue reading

The global financial system desperately needs a big, bloody sovereign default—-a profoundly disruptive financial event capable of shattering the current rotten regime of bank bailouts and central bank financial repression. Needless to say, Greece is just the ticket: A default on its crushing debt and exit from the Euro would stick a fork in it like no other. But don’t count on the Greeks. Yes, their new government does have a strong mandate to throw off the yoke of its Brussels imposed bailout and associated debt servitude. Were the Syriza government to remain faithful to the raison d’etre of its wholly accidental rise to power, the task of busting the misbegotten euro project … Continue reading

I have been writing recently about my proposed Keynes project. I have pointed out that no young economist has taken the bait. Nobody wants to devote a lifetime to refute the central economist of the 20th century. Murray Rothbard would have done a devastating job on Keynes, but he died before he got to the 20th century. He never wrote the third volume of his monumental history of economic thought. If he had, this would have saved us a great deal of time. I am a debater. I know how to debate in a formal debate, and I know how … Continue reading

At least two people have died and a further seven exposed to a deadly strain of drug-resistant superbug bacteria at a hospital on the UCLA campus. Authorities are notifying 179 more people that have potentially been exposed. The enterobacteriaceae (CRE) can be fatal in as many as half of all cases if the bacteria reach the bloodstream. The university discovered the outbreak last month, while running tests on a patient. It will now test the other 179 people it believes to be infected. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention are currently assisting the LA County Department of Public … Continue reading

We all know that we should be eating a bit more healthily, especially if we are watching our weight. But it always surprises me how little we really know about the importance a nutritious diet has for our health and wellbeing. Food is the most powerful drug that we have, with many natural foods proving to be as beneficial in tackling certain diseases, conditions and ailments as modern medicine. Every week, I see new studies showing that what we eat can reduce our risk of developing diseases or help treat existing problems. Of course, we have to take these studies … Continue reading
