Well that didn’t take long. Just three days after the French government hosted dozens of foreign leaders in a “unity rally” to defend free speech in the wake of last week’s shooting at the Charlie Hebdo magazine, France has begun arresting its citizens for actually exercising free speech. According to news reports, more than 50 French citizens were arrested today and charged with offensive speech — the same kind of speech that was the trademark of of the Charlie Hebdo publication. None of those arrested were charged with links to terrorism or any real crime. Instead, they are facing up to seven … Continue reading

The right of people to express their opinions publicly without governmental interference, subject to the laws against libel, incitement to violence or rebellion, etc. The right, guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, to express beliefs and ideas without unwarranted government restriction. The right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations… There is only speech, and government opposition to it. The protests in France and elsewhere – supposedly in support of free speech – are laughable.  France, having some of the more draconian speech laws, is … Continue reading

The neocons are flipping out over a column at the Ron Paul Institute that suggests the Charlie Hebdo Massacre was a false flag operation. Here’s neocon Field Commander Bill Kristol: So what is this? How often does Commander Kristol click over to RPI? There is less than a 60 minute difference  between the 2 tweets. I hope the commander is making a donation, though I don’t expect him to come in at the Hero of Peace  level. As for the column run by RPI, it was written by Paul Craig Roberts, PCR is a  a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury … Continue reading

It has long been the modus operandi of dieters around the world – cut the fat and opt for ‘lighter’ foods to try to shift the pounds. The NHS itself recommends eating plenty of potatoes, bread, rice and pasta with some milk and diary foods, but advises opting for low-fat options. But now a growing body of evidence is turning the tide on that advice. A vast collection of studies are changing the dieting landscape, as experts open their eyes to the real enemy targeting our waistlines – carbohydrates. Now one dietitian, Dr Trudi Deakin, has revealed her diet is … Continue reading

The world entered a new epoch on July 16 1945 when humans detonated the first atomic bomb, scientists have concluded. Human behaviour now has such an enormous impact on Earth that it has even altered the geology of the planet and tipped us into a new era, the Anthropocene. Although humans have been leaving traces of their actions for thousands of years, it was not until the mid-19th century that they began to affect the entire globe, in what scientists have termed ‘the Great Acceleration.’ Since then the world has experienced a huge boom in population, environmental upheaval on land … Continue reading

Coca-Cola is the world’s best-known brand. In 2012, more than 1.8 billion people in more than 200 countries drank a Coke every day — that’s about one can or bottle for every four human beings on the planet. To create all the world’s Coke takes 79 billion gallons of water every year, added to a secret syrup of sugar (or high-fructose corn syrup), caffeine, coca leaf extract and flavourings. And an estimated eight thousand billion gallons of water is used to make the bottles and cans each year. When chemist John Stith Pemberton, from the U.S. state of Georgia, created … Continue reading

This morning’s market is more erratic than Claire Danes off her lithium. Gold is soaring, the euro’s plunging, US treasury yields are in free fall, junk bonds are faltering, copper is bouncing, oil has rolled over, the Russell 2000 momos are getting mauled, the swissie has shot the moon, the Dow is knee-jerking down, correlations are failing……and the robo traders are flat-out lost. All praise the god of price discovery! For six years financial markets have been drugged into zombiedom by maniacal central bankers who have violated every known rule of sound money and financial market honesty. In expanding their collective balance sheets from … Continue reading

Editor’s Note: We are no longer certain that the Swiss Water Method is safe, so please disregard our recommendation until we have an opportunity to do further research. For now, our recommendation is to avoid all decaffeinated tea and coffee. Decaffeinated drinks have been touted as a healthy alternative for several decades at the behest of the chemical industry, but these drinks are often more dangerous than the unmodified versions. Early decaffeination efforts were abruptly terminated because of the toxic solvents that were used in the process (benzene, chloroform, and trichloroethylene).  Of course, the F.D.A. is okay with benzene being … Continue reading

The lawful owner of the 8,134 tonnes of official gold holdings of the United States is the US Treasury. The Federal Reserve handed over the official gold reserves to the Treasury in 1934 and in return received gold certificates – which, by the way, are not redeemable for gold, only for dollars, but that’s not the point now. The point is these gold certificates are still valued on the Fed’s balance sheet at $42.22 an ounce. The free market price of gold is currently about $1,200. The reason the US capped the value of gold on their books at $42.22 … Continue reading

Most of us would like our vehicles to last a long time – and cost us as little money as possible during that time. Here are a few tips toward that end: * If your vehicle has a manual transmission, the first time you start the car in the morning – especially if it’s a cold morning – select neutral after starting the engine, gently release the clutch and let the car idle for about 30 seconds before driving off. This isn’t about warming up the engine(that’s no longer necessary, unless the car is very old and has a carburetor rather than … Continue reading
