Last Rumble In Fat City (For All Of Us); Never Apologize, Never Explain; Whooping It Up With the War Junkies; More Notes On The Death Of The American Dream; Get Out While You Can  . . . Hunter S. Thompson died 10 years ago this afternoon when a .45 caliber bullet fired from a Smith & Wesson Model 645 he was holding passed through his brain. He wanted it that way. Hunter was a profoundly gifted writer, sportsman, gun lover, and cultural icon.  Mostly he was my mentor.  No one affected my view of life more profoundly than he did.  … Continue reading

The global financial system desperately needs a big, bloody sovereign default—-a profoundly disruptive financial event capable of shattering the current rotten regime of bank bailouts and central bank financial repression. Needless to say, Greece is just the ticket: A default on its crushing debt and exit from the Euro would stick a fork in it like no other. But don’t count on the Greeks. Yes, their new government does have a strong mandate to throw off the yoke of its Brussels imposed bailout and associated debt servitude. Were the Syriza government to remain faithful to the raison d’etre of its wholly accidental rise to power, the task of busting the misbegotten euro project … Continue reading

I have been writing recently about my proposed Keynes project. I have pointed out that no young economist has taken the bait. Nobody wants to devote a lifetime to refute the central economist of the 20th century. Murray Rothbard would have done a devastating job on Keynes, but he died before he got to the 20th century. He never wrote the third volume of his monumental history of economic thought. If he had, this would have saved us a great deal of time. I am a debater. I know how to debate in a formal debate, and I know how … Continue reading

At least two people have died and a further seven exposed to a deadly strain of drug-resistant superbug bacteria at a hospital on the UCLA campus. Authorities are notifying 179 more people that have potentially been exposed. The enterobacteriaceae (CRE) can be fatal in as many as half of all cases if the bacteria reach the bloodstream. The university discovered the outbreak last month, while running tests on a patient. It will now test the other 179 people it believes to be infected. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention are currently assisting the LA County Department of Public … Continue reading

President Obama recently penned an OpEd, “Our fight against violent extremism.”  It is in need of some modification. ——————————————– The United States has made significant gains against contributions toward terrorism. We’ve decimated strengthened the core al Qaeda leadership, strengthened decimatedhomeland security and worked to prevent convinced our allies not to launch another large-scale attack like 9/11. At the same time, the our threat has evolved. The al Qaeda affiliate in Yemen Weactively plots plot against you us. Since 9/11, terrorists we have murdered U.S. citizens overseas, including in the attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Here in the United States,Americans government agents … Continue reading

We all know that we should be eating a bit more healthily, especially if we are watching our weight. But it always surprises me how little we really know about the importance a nutritious diet has for our health and wellbeing. Food is the most powerful drug that we have, with many natural foods proving to be as beneficial in tackling certain diseases, conditions and ailments as modern medicine. Every week, I see new studies showing that what we eat can reduce our risk of developing diseases or help treat existing problems. Of course, we have to take these studies … Continue reading

MILLVILLE, NJ — A retired schoolteacher is facing felony charges for owning an 18th century relic firearm in the state of New Jersey. Gordan N. Van Gilder, 72, was pulled over by a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy on November 20, 2014 for a minor traffic violation. “The deputy, Joshua Sheppard, started screaming at us,” Mr. Van Gilder recalled to NRA News. “He wanted to search the car.” “You’re going to give us your consent, or do I have to get the dog?” Deputy Sheppard allegedly challenged. “You don’t have to get any dogs. Help yourself,” Van Gilder recounted saying to … Continue reading

There is an episode of the TV show Top Gear involving a Prius hybrid and automatic weapons. God, I wish I could afford to do the same to a Tesla. Unfortunately, I (and thee) are too poor to afford a Tesla. But that doesn’t mean we won’t continue to be forced to “help” Elon Musk build these mobile – just barely (and briefly) monuments to crony capitalism. This is a company that bleeds money like a machine-gunned hemophiliac, yet doesn’t die because fresh transfusions are always available. Just last week it was announced the company lost another $100 million and change while delivering fewer … Continue reading

A senior American climate scientist has spoken of the fear he experienced when US intelligence services apparently asked him about the possibility of weaponising the weather as a major report on geo-engineering is to be published this week. Professor Alan Robock stated that three years ago, two men claiming to be from the CIA had called him to ask whether experts would be able to tell if hostile forces had begun manipulating the US’s weather, though he suspected the purpose of the call was to find out if American forces could meddle with other countries’ climates instead. During a debate … Continue reading

A hapax legomenon is a word or phase that is unique. It appears only one time in an entire body of text. Hapax legomena can occur either in a single text or in an author’s entire works of literature, and they appear in ancient languages—Greek, Roman, Hebrew, Old English—as well as in computer science programming languages. No one can be sure of the exact meaning of these 10 instances of hapex legomena, so we can only guess their definitions based on limited context clues. 10 Aeppelfealu Old English Aeppelfealu appears exactly once in the entire existing Old English canon, in Beowulf. The author of … Continue reading

Wandering around YouTube recently, I stumbled across some good old government-issue propaganda.  It was a video clearly meant to stir American emotions and prepare us for a long struggle against a determined, brutal, and barbaric enemy whose way of life is a challenge to the most basic American values. Here’s some of what I learned: our enemy is engaged in a crusade against the West; wants to establish a world government and make all of us bow down before it; fights fanatically, beheads prisoners, and is willing to sacrifice the lives of its followers in inhuman suicide attacks.  Though its … Continue reading
