Audit the Fed Adds More Cosponsors

Support for Audit the Fed continues to build in the early days of the 114th Congress, with 11 representatives signing on to the bill just days after it was introduced with 63 bipartisan original cosponsors.

In a press release, Freshman Rep. Tom Emmer (MN-6) said “It’s time to Audit the Fed,”

The transparency of the United States Government is fundamental to our Republic. Unfortunately, the institution that has the greatest influence on our economy, the Federal Reserve (Fed), operates behind closed doors and is inaccessible, even to members of Congress.
….
I urge my colleagues to join Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-4) and my fellow cosponsors in pushing for H.R. 24, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2015. With the purchasing power of our nation’s currency at risk, the Fed can no longer be permitted to operate in the shadows.

Emmer took the seat of retiring Rep. Michele Bachmann, a longtime Audit the Fed proponent.

The other representatives who cosponsored include two other Freshmen, Alex Mooney (WV-2), whose cosponsorship we noted yesterday on the blog, and Dave Brat (VA-7).

Additional cosponsors were as follows:

  • Bob Latta (OH-5)
  • Lamar Smith (TX-21)
  • Reid Ribble (WI-8)
  • Andy Harris (MD-1)
  • Marlin Stutzman (IN-3)
  • Mark Sanford (SC-1)
  • Cynthia Lummis (WY)

Contact your representative today and urge him or her to cosponsor H.R. 24, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act.
