EU lawmakers slam Turkey over media crackdown
‘European Union’s parliamentarians have expressed concern about the issue of democracy in Turkey, slamming Ankara over imposing tough restrictions on media and freedom of speech.
Turkey’s acts have “cast serious doubts on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, and demonstrated an increasing intolerance of political opposition, public protest and critical media,” the lawmakers said in a resolution on Thursday.
Members of the European Parliament also expressed concern about “backsliding in democratic reforms” in Turkey, urging further aid for the country’s independent media and civil society groups.’
