Hundreds angry at Plymouth ‘disability tax’ that will claim 70 per cent of their benefits

‘Hundreds of elderly and disabled people are set to lose up to 70 per cent of their benefits under a new council policy, prompting serious concerns for their physical and mental health.

Cash-strapped Plymouth City Council will now take 70 per cent of a person’s Disability Living Allowance into account when assessing how much they pay towards previously free social care services.

PCC chiefs claim this will create a fairer system, but vulnerable people and their families have accused the council of effectively imposing a ‘disability tax’.’
