UN envoy meets with Libya militant commanders, urges freeze of clashes

‘The United Nations’ special envoy to Libya has met with the leaders of different warring factions in an attempt to end the bloody conflict in the North African country.

Bernardino Leon called for a temporary freeze of clashes in Libya following his meeting with General Khalifa Hafter, the head of forces loyal to the country’s internationally recognized government, and the commanders of anti-government militants in the capital, Tripoli, on Friday.

“The United Nations considers that it is extremely important to freeze fire, to stop the fighting, so that this political dialogue can start on a sound basis,” said Leon.’
