‘HSBC cancelled my repayment plan just before I cleared my debt’
‘When Jon Breeds’ family-run business, Ashmore Farm Meats Supplies, failed in 2012, he owed HSBC £13,000.
The farmer, who produced and sold his own beef, pork and lamb, as well as a range of other meats, cheeses and eggs from local suppliers in Hellingly, Sussex, was determined to repay the debt.
He visited his local branch manager who set up a repayment plan. The agreement was that Mr Breeds would pay £500 a month until the debt was cleared, and he has paid this amount every month since without fail.
But in December 2014, when Mr Breeds had just five payments remaining, he received a letter from HSBC asking him to telephone the bank.’
