Lib Dem donor scandal: rising star Ibrahim Taguri quits as parliamentary candidate

‘The Liberal Democrats’ former chief fundraiser has quit as a parliamentary candidate for the party after being exposed in a Telegraph investigation accepting a potentially illegal donation.

Ibrahim Taguri stepped down as the Lib Dem candidate for Brent Central, as well as from his role as Nick Clegg’s spokesman on racial equality, as the party referred itself to the Electoral Commission.

The move came after the Telegraph revealed how Mr Taguri had told an undercover reporter posing as a wealthy Indian businessman that he could donate money to the party via a “cousin” in order to keep a low profile.’
