Greeks Can’t Pay June IMF Debt; End of Euro Near

The Sunday Telegraph has confirmed the obvious: Greece cannot make its scheduled June debt payments to the IMF. This, in turn, can very easily precipitate a crisis that leads to the demise of the entire Euro system. Lyndon LaRouche today called the collapse of the EMU “inevitable.”

In an interview with Mega TV, Greek Interior Minister Nikos Voutsis said, “this money will not be given and is not there to be given.” Greece is due to make four payments to the IMF in June, totaling $1.6 billion.

Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, who appeared on the Andrew Marr Show, warned that if the IMF and the European Union do not come forward with a compromise on the Greek debt, this will lead to Greece leaving the Euro and an end to the entire Euro project.

Varoufakis repeated his warnings that a Greek exit from the Euro would be “catastrophic” for both Greece and the EMU, but also warned that the decision now lies with the IMF, the ECB, and the EU whether they will meet Greece “one quarter of the way” and reach a debt deal.

“Whatever some analysts are saying about firewalls, these firewalls won’t last long once you put and infuse into people’s minds, into investors’ minds, that the eurozone is not indivisible. It will only be a matter of time before the whole thing begins to unravel.”
