Does Karl Rove support gun control?

Maybe not, but his answer to the question of how we stop gun violence does raise suspicions:

So, we have come a long way. Now, maybe there’s some magic law that will keep us from having more of these. I mean, basically, the only way to guarantee that we would dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society, and until somebody gets enough oomph to repeal the Second Amendment, that’s not going to happen. I don’t think it’s an answer.

Some are defending Mr. Rove on the grounds that he did not explicitly endorse repealing the Second Amendment, instead he pointed out that repeal of the Second Amendment is highly unlikely. That may be a fair interpenetration of his remarks, but that does not mean supporters of individual liberty should not be troubled by the fact that a prominent Republican has endorsed the notion that outlawing private gun ownership will reduce gun crimes.

This is a widely discredited, and highly illogical, notion. After all, since criminals, by definition, do not follow laws, gun control laws will not disarm criminals. Instead, they will leave law-abiding Americans more vulnerable to gun crime. Therefore, the best way to protect innocent Americans from gun violence is to repeal existing gun control laws, not pass new ones.

Perhaps Mr. Roe should read John Lott on why more guns equals less crime and on the dangers of gun-free zones.
