EU referendum: Rules ‘rigged’ towards Yes vote, former Tory Cabinet minister says

‘Owen Paterson has launched a blistering attack on the governments plans not to implement a ‘purdah’ before the EU referendum.

The former Tory cabinet minister said Mr Hammond’s argument about why public money should be allowed to be spent explaining the government’s favoured outcome was “nonsense”.

He said such a move could make the vote look “rigged” and render the result “illegitimate”.’
