Rebuked: Ministers join child protection campaigners in denouncing judge’s suggestion that migrants can hit children
‘Ministers joined child protection campaigners yesterday in denouncing a judge’s suggestion that recently-arrived immigrant parents should be permitted to slap and hit their children.
In what was interpreted as a stern rebuke, a Government spokesman said there should be ‘no exceptions’ which allowed foreigners to inflict violence on their sons and daughters.
Mrs Justice Pauffley, a High Court judge, sparked outrage on Tuesday when she said police and social services should make allowances when investigating new migrants because of the ‘different cultural context’.
Child protection campaigners called for the Ministry of Justice to investigate the judge’s comments.’
