The Secret Safari – How Communists Armed the ANC in South Africa
‘Africa Hinterland was an overland travel company set up in the UK in the early 1980s to smuggle weapons and ammunition into South Africa for the communists military struggle against the Boer. It was founded by exiled members of the African National Congress and made over 40 trips into South Africa by truck, carrying up to a ton of weapons on each trip hidden in secret compartments welded under the truck seats. Enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers from England and Holland drove the trucks. For these communists there was no such thing as swords being turned into plowshares. These internationalists loved the idea of arms smuggling and bringing war and more conflict to South Africa.’
