‘Calls have been made for an immediate ban on a drug given to British soldiers because of concerns over reported link with depression and mental illness.
Mefloquine, or Lariam as it is known by brand name, is a once a week malarial drug given to soldiers serving in malaria prone areas.
But Tory MP Johnny Mercer, himself a former army officer , wants its use halted until further research has been carried out into the side effects.’
