Heath should not have been named as paedophile, says Met police chief
‘Britain’s most senior police officer has questioned the decision by the Wiltshire force to name Sir Edward Heath as a suspected paedophile while still investigating unproven allegations against him.
Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said he favoured providing suspects with anonymity until they were charged with an offence, saying the “victims deserve it and the suspects deserve it”.
His comments came after a minister described the police investigation into the former prime minister as a “reactionary witch-hunt” after it emerged that the force’s former chief constable retired after being investigated over his handling of a child sex abuse case.’
