Paris train gunman’s links to Syria
‘The Islamist gunman who attempted to murder hundreds of passengers on a train to Paris was identified by intelligence agencies as a terrorist threat in the days after the Charlie Hebdo massacre.
The jihadist is believed to have been radicalised in Spain and travelled to Syria to fight with Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), returning to Europe in the past three months and amassing an arsenal of weapons.
However, before boarding the high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris in Brussels on Friday, Ayoub el-Khazzani, 26, had been allowed to move freely around Europe – despite being known to at least four intelligence agencies.’
