Chaffetz for Speaker? LOL
It’s no secret that the GOP is struggling. Whether it is refusing to reduce spending, spying on innocent Americans, or calling for tax increases, the GOP has a clear credibility problem. There is good news, however! Speaker John Boehner, the long foe of conservatives has said he will step down as Speaker this month.
So now Republicans have a real chance to elect someone who will fight for conservative principles, finally restoring credibility to the GOP. And the “conservative” willing to take up the charge? Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). LOL.
Chaffetz is the friend of neither liberty nor conservatism. Chaffetz is the lead sponsor of two pieces of legislation C4L is fighting. The first is the Remote Transactions Party Act, which would force retailers to collect and remit sales taxes to the over 9,700 tax jurisdictions in the United States. This legislation would cripple small retailers, which is why it is supported by the big box stores.
Chaffetz is also the sponsor of the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, which would institute a federal ban on online gambling, and thus trample the Constitution in the process. This bill is backed by one billionaire casino owner who stands to benefit financially by banning online gambling. So much for the GOP’s claim of being against crony capitalism.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Rep. Chaffetz is not a cosponsor of Audit the Fed. Audit the Fed would finally eliminate the Fed’s special exemption from having certain aspects of its operations subject to GAO audits, finally allowing the American people to see what the Fefd is doing to our money and our economy. Apparently Chaffetz believes the Federal Reserve should still be allowed to operate behind a veil of secrecy.
Someone who is in favor of crony capitalism, tax increases, and against Federal Reserve Transparency for Speaker? No thanks and LOL, GOP.
