When looked at through this lens it becomes clear why fear and other negative emotional states are such powerful and often self-limiting and self-destructive forces in our lives: negative emotional states are uncomfortable, and often painful to experience, which means we will avoid people, situations and circumstances that trigger them like the plague.’
