Worldpay studying facial recognition payments system
‘Secure payments firm Worldpay, which handles transactions for nearly half of the UK’s high street businesses, is studying the use of facial recognition tech embedded into point of sale devices.
The company is researching the possibility of integrating tiny upward-facing cameras into card readers to authorise purchases. The so-called PED Cam system (Pin Entry Device Camera) would be linked to a central biometric database managed by Worldpay to be compared with previous snaps.’
