Corbyn is Fighting in the War-Room

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned Britain’s armed forces chief for suggesting that Corbyn must not be allowed to be Prime Minister because he has renounced the use of nuclear weapons.

Corbyn said,

Gen. Houghton was asked on BBC’s Andrew Marr show if he were bothered by Corbyn saying in September that he was opposed to the use of nuclear weapons and would not launch them as prime minister. Gen. Houghton responded, “it would worry me if that thought was translated into power … There are a couple of hurdles to cross before we get to that [Jeremy Corbyn winning an election], but the … whole thing about deterrence rests on the credibility of its use.”

The Guardian noted that shortly “after Corbyn was elected Labour Party leader [in September 2015], an unnamed serving general was quoted claiming that the armed forces could stage a mutiny, or even a coup, if Corbyn became prime minister.”

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said they would wait to receive Corbyn’s letter before replying. But a ministry source boasted to the Guardian that Corbyn’s complaint was undermined by the split in Corbyn’s own party: Maria Eagle, Labour’s shadow defence minister (i.e. Labour’s candidate for replacing the current Conservative government’s minister), publicly took Gen. Houghton’s side against Corbyn, saying she supports the current nuclear war doctrine.

The Labour split reflects Corbyn’s challenge to the Anglo- American war policy based on provocations against Russia and China. The insane war drive evolved from the previous oligarch-sponsored British government of “New Labour” under Tony Blair and his followers, in opposition to which Corbyn took over the party.
