Sunday Times Successfully Defends High Court Libel Action By Former MP Tim Yeo Who Faces Massive Legal Costs

Tim Yeo, a Conservative MP for 30 years before the last election, claimed he had been libelled by articles in the Sunday Times that ‘damaged’ his reputation. But the case was dismissed by a judge who ruled the stories to be true and fair comment on matters of public interest. Mr Justice Warby said Yeo’s evidence was ‘unreliable’ and ‘untruthful’ and described him as like a fish on a hook: ‘When a fish wriggles on a hook, it goes deeper into the mouth and guarantees that the fish will not escape.’

He’s not the only one, either.
