Australia Post and council seek access to Australians’ metadata without a warrant

‘Australia Post, Bankstown City Council in Sydney and Greyhound Racing Victoria are among 61 government agencies that have applied to be given access to Australians’ private metadata without a warrant.

The government bodies are seeking to be considering “criminal law enforcement agencies” so they can access Australians’ internet history and phone records.

Also on the list published by ZDNet is Victoria’s Taxi Services Commission, RSPCA Victoria, the WA Department of Fisheries and the National Measurement Institute, which enforces the accuracy of supermarket scales.

Four of the agencies on the list were redacted by the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD).’
