Civilians to help police investigate cybercrimes, says Theresa May. Because she won’t have to pay them?
‘Does anybody else relish the thought of members of the public, unqualified, with none of the responsibilities or obligations of police officers, carrying out police investigations?
What about the fact that Theresa May’s new plan relies on volunteers – people who won’t receive any payment for the work they carry out with the police?
In those circumstances, what’s to stop any of these unpaid ‘volunteers’ from seeking a little extra remuneration through the use of the private information to which they will be provided access, if May’s Snooper’s Charter finally gets the Royal Assent?
This is an open invitation for people to take part in cybercrime, not help stop it.’
