David Cameron’s EU reform deal scorecard
‘Cameron promised to renegotiate the U.K.’s membership of the European Union in his 2015 election manifesto in a bid to appease Euroskeptics in his party. He put forward proposals in a letter to European Council President Donald Tusk in November, requesting reform covering four key areas: economic governance, sovereignty, competitiveness and immigration.
Tusk then prepared a draft agreement that was circulated to the 27 other EU leaders in February. This draft underwent a series of revisions in the weeks leading up a summit of EU leaders on February 18-19.
Tusk announced unanimous support for a deal at 10:30pm Friday after more than 24 hours of negotiations.
