Campaign for Liberty Strongly Opposes De Facto E-Cigarette Ban
SPRINGFIELD, Virginia – Today, Campaign for Liberty came out strongly against the Food and Drug Administration’s e-cigarette regulations requiring all e-cigarette products produced after February 15, 2007 to go through the Pre-Market Tobacco Applications process (PMTA). This would have the effect of banning nearly all e-cigarette products according to industry leaders.
“The FDA’s new regulations will not just impact underage e-cigarette users but will also take away e-cigarettes from the millions of Americans who have freely chosen to use this healthier alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes,” said Campaign for Liberty President Norm Singleton.
“Even worse, imposing expensive ‘pre-market’ clearance on existing e-cigarette products will drive small manufacturers out of business, and kill innovation in the e-cigarette industry, preventing the development of even healthier alternatives to both traditional cigarettes and existing types of e-cigarettes.
“Campaign for Liberty will work to stop these types of unconstitutional and unjustified paternalistic regulations from government agencies.”
Campaign for Liberty supports the amendment passed by the House Appropriations Committee on April 19 that would do away with this onerous rule.
