BP estimates loss from Gulf of Mexico oil spill at almost $62bn
‘Energy major BP estimates the total cost of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill will be $61.6 billion, and suggests further claims related to the spill will “not have a material impact.”
The company said it expects to take an after-tax non-operating charge of around $2.5 billion in its second quarter 2016 results.
“Over the past few months we’ve made significant progress resolving outstanding Deepwater Horizon claims and today we can estimate all the material liabilities remaining from the incident,” said Brian Gilvary, BP chief financial officer.’
