Is the government about to expand data collection?
Campaign for Liberty has joined a collation of groups across the ideological spectrum on a letter to National Intelligence Director James Clapper and National Security Agency Head Michael Rogers, (cc every member of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees) in opposition to proposed changes to Executive Order 12333.
This Reagan-era Executive Order creates a framework for collection foreign intelligence. However, EO 12333 has been used to justify warrantless data collection on American citizen. Now there is a proposal to allow federal intelligence agencies to share information collected under EO 12333 to share that information with domestic law enforcement!
Campaign for Liberty members who oppose further erosion of our fourth amendment rights should call their Senators and Representatives and ask that they oppose allowing federal intelligence agencies to share information collected under EO 12333 to share that information with law enforcement agencies.
Text of the letter available here.
