The Activist Hedge Fund
Robin Hood Cooperative is a fund run by activists. It came to life in 2012 when Askeli Virtanen and a team of artists and radical academics joined forces at the University of Aalto outside Helsinki in Finland. The fund was envisaged as a piece of ‘economic performance art’ and the team went out to raise money from scraggly freelance workers and other lowly chancers. They somehow managed to collect over €500 000. That’s pretty small by hedge fund standards, but now the team is seeking to expand it and leverage blockchain technology to create an anarchic crypto-equity fund.
