Could Brazil’s Michel Temer Be Impeached Next?
‘Brazil’s Senate-imposed President Michel Temer should be removed from office for corruption, according to evidence presented by the legal team of ousted President Dilma Rousseff on Friday.
The new evidence could invalidate the result of the 2014 presidential election and throw the country into further political turmoil. The documents presented to the Supreme Electoral Court claim that in July 2014 Temer took bribes from Otavio Azevedo, who was head of the multinational construction company Andrade Gutierrez.
In July 2014, Rousseff’s lawyers presented documents which detail how the company transferred around US$250,000 to the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, PMDB. The funds were then quickly moved to Temer’s personal campaign fund.’
