German Defense Minister calls for pupils without degrees & EU citizens in army – report

‘German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has called for those who fail to graduate from school to join the ranks of the military as the army looks to boost personnel, media reports. Enlisting EU citizens also appears to be on the table.
Both measures were voiced by in an internal presentation by Von der Leyen on Thursday, Handelsblatt says. Elaborating ways to fill the gaps in the ranks of the military (Bundeswehr), which is set to get an enlargement in the coming years, was one of the main points of the meeting.’
