US Congress to Put Foreign Broadcasting Under Direct White House Control
‘Tucked inside the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2017, the US Senate has quietly passed reforms to put government-funded media outlets directly under the control of the White House.
Previously, US-funded outlets such as the Voice of America and Radio Liberty have been overseen by a Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), a nine-person, bipartisan board which includes the US Secretary of State, which serves as a buffer between state-sponsored media outlets and the administration.’
