The Department of Education Is Spending a Mind-Boggling Amount of Money to Protect Betsy DeVos

‘Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has been met with angry mobs since her narrow confimation in mid-February. As a result, the department is spending a staggering $1 million per month to keep her safe, according to the Washington Post. “The [U.S.] Marshals Service is hiring nearly two-dozen people to guard her,” the report finds.
Under an agreement signed in late Month, DeVos will be under its protection through September, but she may use law enforcement agency’s services for the duration of her term.
The Post report also noted that while “the new outlay is a tiny fraction of the department’s budget, [it] comes as the Trump administration has proposed slashing the spending plan by $9 billion, or 13.5 percent.”‘
