UK aid spending soars by 10 PER CENT to more than £13BILLION a year after EU accountants revise up the size of the economy

‘The UK’s aid spending soared by 10 per cent last year despite the government pushing ahead with austerity measures.
The total outlay on aid spiked by more than £1.2billion after EU accountants revised up the size of the British economy.
The bumper sum, revealed in official figures today, will cause fresh anger about the government’s priorities at a time when it is pushing through austerity measures.
The UK is one of the few wealthy countries that meets the target for allocating 0.7 per cent of national income (GNI) to development spending. In 2015 that meant we handed over £12.138billion in Overseas Development Assistance (ODA).’
